The Trust has recently been lobbying MP's in the hope that policy's for our Children are changed for the better. Please read for yourself the replies received and draw your own conclusions! Thank fully not all responses are negative or ignorant of the facts and we thank those that work hard for positive changes for the good of our children. |
The Letter you see below is a response sent to us after we asked for changes to the current benefit system for working parents when one parent is caring for a child and the other is still trying to hold down a job. We asked if a system could be implimented at the place of employment linked directly to the benefits system to help parents who have to use up annual leave, then also use up special leave entitlement and then further rely on sick leave to spend time at home helping to care or spend time with a terminally ill child. This means one parent is left without a wage or a benefit as very often the parent takes unpaid leave for fear of using sick leave and being disciplined or having a poor sickness record. Of course using up all leave entitlement means the parent cannot take a family holiday either even if respite care is available leaving parents shattered and overtired. The present system only benefits those families where both parents do not work. Surely there should be a support system in place ? Especially for parents who contribute to our system ? |
